A dream day of racing for the NZ Reps, Lisa Carrington and Marty McDowell. Both have made it into their A finals, making Day 1 an exciting day of racing for any Kiwi.
Marty places forth in his Heat
Marty placed fourth in the 3rd Heat of the Senior Mens K1 1000m division, despite what looked like a slow start out of the blocks.
It was a race of two halves, with Dostal (CZE), Pimenta (POR) and Roza (ESP) finishing quite close together, leaving significant clear water between them and the main group. Marty lead the rest of the pack, finishing in 4:10.796, 28.552 secs behind the leader.
Strong 3rd in the A Semifinal qualifies McDowell for A Final!
Marty McDowell has made it in the A Final, taking third place in the A Semifinal, behind home favourite Fernando Pimenta (3:54.928) and Australian Daniel Bowker (03:56.368). Marty’s time of 03:57.996 put him in 8th qualifying position, 9.08 secs off the fastest Jakub Spicar of Czech Republic.
MK1 1000m A Final (Race 36) is scheduled to Saturday at 11:46 (21:46 NZT).
Lisa Carrington smashes field in her heat to qualify directly for the Senior Women K1 200m A final.
As usual, Lisa was fastest out of the blocks in the WK1 200m B Heat, quickly gaining half a boat length over her competitors. Looking very determined, Lisa extended her lead over the race to finish in an impressive 42.616, over two seconds faster than Portugal’s Joana VASCONCELOS (Portugal) and Andreanne LANGLOIS (Canada).
Lisa moves straight into the A Final, with the fastest overall qualifying time over the other heat winners, Marta W ALCZYKIEWICZ (Poland) and Spela JANIC (Slovakia).
