In an absolute dream run, New Zealand’s own Lisa Carrington simply smashed every race she entered. Proving herself to be the strongest and most consistent kayaker around, Lisa won five gold medals in both the 200m and 500m K1 Senior Women divisions. Post-race she was typically modest and seems focussed on training for the future – the World Champs in Italy in August – her opportunity to qualify for the Olympics.
The competition was Lisa’s first major outing in the new Nelo K1 Cinco. When we spoke to her before the event, Lisa was looking forward to testing it in a serious racing environment.
"The Cinco responds differently – it wants to go forward instead of going sideways. It rocks less and propels forwards. At a good speed it sits on top of the water. I need to be aware and have confidence in where the boat moves."
Lisa Carrington
Well Lisa, it certainly moved – and fast. A real inspiration to watch.
Despite being the first major competition since its launch, new Nelo K1 Cinco was very popular amongst K1 athletes at the World Cup.
Both Lisa Carrington and Max Hoff demonstrated an aggressive paddling style that made the most of the Cinco's quick acceleration from a standing start. Max helped to design his Jantex Rio paddle with the same aim of increased stability from the first pull. Lisa stuck with her favourite Jantex Gamma Paddle. Clearly the Nelo K1 Cinco and Jantex Paddle combination was unbeatable.
As the exclusive NZ distributor of both Nelo and Jantex, we could not be prouder of the results. To talk about how Nelo and Jantex can improve your times, give Terry a call on 021 074 8485.
